Martin Sercombe

I have been a storyteller all my life, starting with a passion for poetry which began in my school days. This then developed into visual storytelling via photography and film making. I began making artist’s films on 16mm in the 1980s, and have made a series of moving image art works supported by Arts Council England and other funders. I changed format to video in the 1990s and began working closely with other artists and composers.  My single screen works have been screened at many international festivals throughout the world.

The over-arching theme in all my work is the exploration of hybrid forms and the meeting points between spoken, written and visual poetic languages. The advent of AI generated imagery has provided a powerful new tool to aid this exploration. Midjourney allows me to visualise situations that would be very difficult to illustrate via conventional means. Through it I have begun to tell stories with a strong social commentary, touching upon issues closely aligned to current affairs, and our hopes and concerns for the future of humanity.
